Tenable Network Security Adds IBM iSeries Support To Nessus®

February 23, 2012 · Columbia, MD

Dozens of Security-Related Checks Expand Enterprise System Configuration Coverage

Tenable Network Security, Inc., the leader in Unified Security Monitoring (USM), today announced support for configuration checks of IBM iSeries systems. Tenable's iSeries support is provided through plugins to the Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, the industry's most powerful and comprehensive vulnerability and configuration assessment solution for enterprises and security professionals.

Tenable's iSeries support enables security professionals to assess the security of the iSeries systems within their networks, evaluating dozens of system settings, including configurations, passwords, and operating systems. By comparing the retrieved system settings to IBM's official recommendations, administrators are automatically alerted to discrepancies, insecure configurations, and policy violations.

The Nessus plugins examine 40 different security-related attributes, including:

  • The system security level (QSECURITY), which establishes the overall degree of security enforced by the system, affecting most system operations.
  • The audit level (QAUDLVL), defining which system events should be recorded to the system log.
  • Multiple password-specific settings, including expiration intervals, minimum and maximum lengths, other password complexity and use limits, and various insecure password practices, such as cached, stored, or default passwords.
  • Dozens of other security-related checks associated with system configuration and operation.

"Organizations today face increasingly relentless cybercriminals who will exploit any door or window into your network they can," Gula said. "Keeping a close eye on your system configurations and the strength of your passwords can make sure those barriers stay sealed, which is exactly what we're doing through these Nessus plugins."
