How Well are Your Peers Dealing with Cyber Threats?
Tenable Network Security, the leading provider of vulnerability management and continuous network monitoring solutions, conducted a survey in April 2015 with renowned research company Vanson Bourne to understand the current state of cybersecurity within 400 UK and German organisations. Twenty questions were posed to identify the threats faced, some of the core controls deployed within businesses and how effectively they are operationalising security technologies. The results included some surprises and validated other market assumptions held by many within the security industry. For example:
- 64% actually experienced an attack over the last 12 months, with 32% losing some data in the attack
- 20% of the attacks involved disgruntled employees and 10% were attributed to competitors
- Only 56% of the respondents said that cybersecurity was in the top 3 priorities of their Boards and C-Suites
- A good 78% of the organisations are scanning for vulnerabilities at least once a week, but only 10% scan 100% of their assets

CloudImposer: Executing Code on Millions of Google Servers with a Single Malicious Package
September 16, 2024Tenable Research discovered a remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) that is now fixed and that we dubbed CloudImposer. The vulnerability could have allowed an attacker to hijack an internal software dependency that Google pre-installs on each Google Cloud Composer pipeline-orchestration tool. Tenable Research also found risky guidance in GCP documentation that customers should be aware of.
